Companion Horses |
Do you have a lonely horse at home that would like a Companion horse? Do you have an empty pasture that could use one of these beauties? These horses are very special to us, and we would love to see them go to forever homes where they can live out the rest of their days in ease. They truly deserve it. Companion horses are typically over 20, but some may still be rideable with proper care. Other companion horses may be younger but have some condition that prevents them from being ridden.
The adoption fee for a Companion horse is only $250. We make every effort to have adopted horses be up-to-date on their vaccinations, worming and farrier work.
>> For details on how to adopt any of these horses, please see our Adoption Process page.

Black Pearl
Mare Arabian Cross 2008 15 hh Black Pearl has been patiently waiting for someone to take her home; she has been at Equine Outreach since she was a foal. Black Pearl is halter broke and extremely sweet. She has Wobbler Syndrome, so she isn’t a candidate for riding, but she'd make another horse a wonderful friend and companion. |
Blue
Gelding 1996 (estimated) 15.3 hh Mr. Blue would be so happy to have his own person. He loves attention, is very calm, and has impeccable ground manners. He definitely can move out on the trail, but he's not “hot” or “ill behaved.” Blue stands quietly and nicely to be haltered and saddled. However, due to his severe sway back, only the lightest rider would be appropriate with a proper fitting saddle. |
Blueberry
Mare Pony 1997? Blueberry is a sweet pony that came from a riding school in Hood River. She has a little bit of attitude and a rock-n-roll mane, but is really sweet once you get to know her. She seems to have some lameness issues, so is unlikely to be rideable despite having taught many kids how to ride when she was younger. She spent a few months with a foster family during the summer of 2017 but is back at the ranch now. |
Bon Bon
Mare Thoroughbred 1994 15.3 hh Bon Bon is as-sweet-as-can-be and gets along well with people, kids, dogs and other horses. She has fantastic ground manners. Bon Bon has a lip tattoo, indicating that she was a race horse at some point in her life. Thankfully, her racing days are over now. She needs continued training, but would love to give you the pleasure of a nice, easy ride. |
Bunny
Mare Quarter Horse 1990 (estimated) Bunny is a friendly, sweet Quarter Horse. She is looking for a home where she can go on an occasional ride with a light-weight rider, or perhaps just be a pretty pasture pet. She has good ground manners and has been ridden by children. As with many horses though, she will take advantage of her rider if she feels she's in charge, so being matched with the right person is important. |
Calamity Jane
Mare Thoroughbred 1994 16 hh Calamity was part of the Powell Butte seizure herd. She has a sweet disposition, leads, and backs up. There is some lameness present, but as beautiful family addition, she'd be perfect! |
Casino
Mare Thoroughbred (Registered, "Asti Casino") 1998 15.1 hh Casino is a registered Thoroughbred ("Asti Casino") and she has a racing record with the Jockey Club, but will need to be restarted. She does not trust easily, so she's looking for a very special person. She cannot be a solo horse; she needs the companionship of at least one other horse. She has a patient and kind personality, and she would love to be a part of multi-horse home. Can you give her one? |
Comet
Mare Mustang 1995+ Comet came to Equine Outreach from a seizure situation. She has eye cancer, but is being carefully monitored and treated by our volunteers. She is such a sweet girl, so loving...another horse giving humans another chance. She recovered beautifully from a injury after escaping a few months ago and running into something and tearing a huge gash in her leg. |
Dark Star (Hag Bag)
Mare Thoroughbred (Registered, "Hag Bag") 1994 16 hh Yes, we know, "Hag Bag" isn't the most flattering Thoroughbred registered name, but as you can see, this mare is really a beauty! Now called Dark Star, this lovely girl is kind and gentle and would love to have a new home with you. |
Georgie
Mare Thoroughbred (Registered, "Smart Dart") 1993 15.2 hh Georgie arrived at Equine Outreach in really bad shape, but with plenty of food and attention, she's looking great now. Georgie is a registered Thoroughbred who raced under the name of "Smart Dart". She may be retired, but she still has plenty of pep. She has been ridden since her rehabilitation, but we'd recommend an experience and gentle rider given her age. |
Hank (Junior)
Gelding Pony 14 hh Hank, known to volunteers as Hank Jr. to differentiate from the Clydesdale also named Hank, came in back in 2010. He was adopted but came back recently when his adopters got in a financial crisis. He was a bit skinny but has filled out nicely. He is friendly, curious and gentle and ready for his forever home. |
Harmony
Mare Saddlebred 2004 16 hh Harmony came in without much information, but she is friendly and gentle. She has a neurological condition that prevents her from being rideable, but she would make a gorgeous companion! |
Klamath
Gelding 1994 15 hh Klamath is a favorite of volunteers and is well trained. He has faultless ground manners – a dream to lead and groom. And he loves to get out on the trails – you can see his attitude go from complacent to happy as he briskly steps out on the trail. However, anything more than a walk and he may come up lame. |
Larry & Louise
Louise 2000, Larry 2002 Black donkeys Larry and Louise are brother and sister black donkeys. They came to Equine Outreach in desperate need of a farrier, and are now getting the care they need. Larry & Louise are an inseparable pair, and they won’t let you walk by without expecting some attention! Want to take home a couple of adorable characters? |
Maggie (Pay Commander)
Mare Quarter Horse (Registered, "Pay Commander") 2005 15 hh Maggie is a registered Quarter Horse who has been diagnosed with Wobbler Syndrome. She has a super sweet personality, and is very people friendly! Maggie adores attention, so she would appreciate a home where someone would care for her and make her feel extra special. |
Patty
Mare Paint 2004 15.1 hh Patty is a pretty Paint who tragically suffered a broken pelvis as a foal. We tried training her as a cart horse, but she unfortunately became lame from the exertion. Patty still has so much to offer, and she gives it willingly. If you are looking for a loving, friendly, pasture pet or companion horse, Patty is your girl! |
Violet
Mare Thoroughbred 1994 est 16.1 hh This pretty Thoroughbred mare likes human interaction. Violet has had some ground work and has also been under saddle. She is looking for an experienced trainer/rider. |
